Free desktop app Β· Windows, macOS, Linux

Today's tasks, pinned where you'll see them.

Pendu puts your to-dos on a cork board as sticky notes, and brings the board up the moment you open your laptop. Write it down, tick it off, and whatever you didn't get to is waiting for you tomorrow.

No account. No sign-up. Your notes stay on your computer.

Most to-do apps wait for you to open them. Pendu opens itself.

It starts when you log in, and comes back to the front every time you wake your laptop. So the first thing you see each morning is the short list of what today is for. That is the whole app.

How it works

  1. 1

    Write it down

Type a task and press Enter. A paper note floats up, sways into place and gets pinned to the board.

  2. 2

    Open your laptop

At login, after sleep, and at midnight for a fresh day, the board comes to the front on its own.

  3. 3

    Tick it off

Click a note to cross it out. Anything you didn't finish carries over to tomorrow, so nothing slips.

Small app. Carefully made.

Opens at login

Sign in to your computer and the board is already there. Switch it off with one checkbox if you'd rather not.

Comes back when you wake

Pendu waits quietly in the background. Lift the lid after sleep and your notes are back in front of you.

A new board every morning

At midnight the board switches to the new day and shows itself again. Yesterday's finished notes step aside.

Nothing gets forgotten

A task you didn't finish stays on the board, marked with the day it came from, until you check it.

Every-day tasks

"Drink water", "Stretch", "Read 10 pages". Tick Every day and the note comes back fresh each morning.

Yours, and only yours

No account, no cloud, no tracking. Notes live in one small file on your computer that you can open and back up.

Questions

Is Pendu really free?

Yes. No trial, no account, no ads.

Does it need the internet?

No. Pendu works entirely offline and never sends your notes anywhere.

Where are my notes kept?

In ~/.pendu/notes.json on your computer, a plain file you can open, copy or back up. The web version keeps them in your browser.

Why does my computer warn me when I first open it?

Pendu's downloads aren't code-signed yet, so Windows and macOS show a warning the first time. On Windows choose More info β†’ Run anyway. On a Mac, right-click Pendu and choose Open. You only need to do this once. You can also run it from source.

How do I stop it opening at login?

Untick Open when I log in in the top-right corner of the board.

How do I uninstall it?

Untick Open when I log in, quit Pendu, then delete the app. To remove your notes too, delete the .pendu folder in your home folder.

Can I see the code?

Yes, it's all on GitHub. Bug reports and ideas are welcome there.
